Pay-Tel Communications, Inc., a leader in the Inmate Telephone Service industry since 1989, won the prestigious 2009 Piedmont Business Ethics Award in the mid-sized company category. This award was presented by the Greensboro Chapter of the Society of Financial Service Professionals, and sponsored by the local Chambers of Commerce, five area university business schools, and several local businesses. The trophy was awarded to Pay-Tel in recognition of the company’s commitment to ethical business practices in serving their law enforcement clients and the customers using their service.

An independent panel of judges, comprised of deans, professors and directors from five colleges and universities, selected the award recipients (small, mid-size and large categories) from a pool of 110 nominated entrants based on a wide array of criteria. Among the factors for awarding Pay-Tel are the company’s code of ethics, their fair call rates and their low customer fees.

Also considered was Pay-Tel’s more than twenty-year commitment to regulatory compliance, which has resulted in a record of zero formal complaints. Their many customer-friendly programs were noted, including their newly developed 3-way call detection technology, which features their Ethical 3-way™ call prevention system. Pay-Tel regularly surveys their customers to identify ways to improve their service and programs with the customers’ interest at heart.

Pay-Tel was recognized for its outstanding commitment to employees, including fair and equal treatment, as well as employee health and wellness initiatives. Their state-of-the-art, onsite fitness center enables employees to benefit from the many fitness and nutrition programs available, including individualized assessments, group exercise sessions and educational seminars – all at no cost to the employee.

The award to Pay-Tel was also based on the company’s continuous support of numerous civic and charitable endeavors through financial contributions, as well as staff involvement. Among the organizations and programs supported by Pay-Tel’s philanthropy are the D.A.R.E. Program, Youth Homes in multiple states, Special Olympics and the High Point Jail Ministry.
